Why the fuck does it take 7 fucking days for a cheque to clear? i mean ffs this is the 21st century! I can download an entire film off the internet in a couple of hours, i can buy something from the other side of the world and it be here in 2 days, yet it takes 1 week for money to transfer from someons bank account into mine.

why?

rant over

Because the banks don't want you to use cheques so they try and piss you off so much that you won't use them anymore

i bank with lloyds if you pay in another lloyds cheque you can normally draw on it straight away. banks dont make any money on clearance of cheques, it costs them 36p per cheque, and if you imagine how many cheques they get... a lot of money. a lot of it is to do with fraud, i work in a fraud dept

No, it's to do with interest from how long they hold onto it. They really do make money from it.

They use the cheques overnight on the Asian stock markets, which is basically what they do with your bank account too, just as long as the same amount of money is in your account the next morning
