1000 miles is the norm.... but shouldnt make a difference...

alot of dif views on whether bedding an engine in gently is best, or whether quickly

An engines never truly run in till around 20k. But as said 1k is where you can start opening it up.

dont take it over 3K for around 300 miles then start opeing it up varying the revs so the piston rings expand. Then be carefull opening it up more and more progressively say to 5K then after say 1K or 1.5 K start doing what you like.

In essence the longer you take to run it in the longer its going to last and drive nice

so really, it could be driven as normal, and it wouldnt make too much difference to it, so 3 or 400 miles of normal, sorta 3-4k rpm use would be ok?

naff all - engines are all tested and 'run in' prior to getting fitted!!

when me cousin got his new golf GTI, he asked them what to do, an they just said to drive it as normal, no need to run it in, which i thought was good !!

Probably just the salesman covering his arse so you dont rip the arse out your car in the 1st week then make it his problem Modern cars unless maybe a few select hand built cars do not need to be run in!!!!

Deos any one know what running in the engine actually does? I could understand it if maybe tollerances were shoddy etc, so stuff needs to wear in, but these days, the tolerances are as good as fuck all.

It took my mate a garnd total of about 4 miles from leaving the showroom to checking to see if his VTEC worked or not .

P 134 of the Corsa manual says to run it in for the first 600 miles/1000km.

" Drive your vehicle at various speeds. Do not use full throttle. Never allow the engine to labour at low revs. Depress the accelerator pedal a maximu of around 3/4 of the pedal travel. Do not drive faster than 3/4 of maximum speed"

It's to let the rings bed in, there's various ideas abotu what is the best, I'd say ask the engine tuners who win races.

yeah they all say that but theres no need to do it!!! It will also say not to drive on full throttle for any length of time
