I live in a shared house, and over the weekend our ancient microwave died, tried to get hold of my landlady yesterday but her voicemail wasn't on so her phone just kept ringing etc.

Anyway, I went out after work and bought one the same size as the old one for about £75 (expensive I know but it was the only cheapest one in stock at Comet in that size and I couldn't be arsed going anywhere else), so I got hold of her earlier today and told her I bought it etc. she was like £75?! I better come over tonight and have a look at it (WHY!)...

She comes round like 5 minutes ago with some cheapo £25 Tesco Value microwave which is like half the size of the old one, and says to me I should take the one I bought back to Comet, and it was my fault for not getting hold of her (yes because I have the ability to leave a message on a non existant voicemail system)!

FFS what is the point! Half the packaging has been binned and her shitty old one is in the box the new one come in!

So in the end I said to her I'll phone Comet tomorrow and ask if they'll take it back (which I know they won't) and let her know. Stupid old bag does my head in! It's not like she can't afford to pay £75 for the poxy microwave - her husband is getting a brand new Porsche and he bought her a brand new Ford Fiesta as a "Christmas present"...

I think I'll just keep the bloody microwave in my room and be done with it!

You don't buy your Porsches if you spend 75 quid on microwaves when they're 25 in Tesco.

And?

Trust me, a £75 microwave is nothing to a company like comet. Just go in on a busy Saturday & tell them you have already bought a replacment from a local store. Most Comet stores are out of town anyway so they will believe you if you say you couldn't get in any quicker....

Exactly. I'll just keep the thing in my room or give it to my mum or something. The old bag conveniently forgets the money I spend on fixing things round the house or whatever and don't ask for money for.

You don't have to spend money on the house, so don't.

Like I say, you don't get rich allowing tenants to buy stuff.

True, but then I don't like living in a shithole...

Think this has kind of made the decision for me to move out and get my own place... Oh well, at least I'll have a swanky microwave for when I move out!
