Bet you never knew this

Hi there!

Hope somebody reads this, couldn't resist writing after reading some questions about Coca-Cola presence in this and other threads. In a documentary screened recently on Norwegian State Television (about the company in general), there was a part about the a presence in Germany in the 20/30ies, there was even a picture of the German CEOs with one of the american bigshots at some kind of banquet, with both swastika banners and Coca Cola logos on the wall behind them, a rather special sight.

The interesting thing is, when the war started, the German branch, like Ford was of course cut off from its mothercompany, which for CCs part meant no more concentrate shipped from the US. Still, Germans wanted beverages (other than beer), but with a lot of resources being at least partially rationed, it wasn't too easy to develop something new, or get the necessary resources for a large scale production.

According to the documentary, this was when a CEO developed a new soft drink based on whatever fruit was available, leftovers from other processes etc, and in an attack of aggressive marketing, named it Fanta (short for "Fantastisch", referring to the taste), and the drink became such a huge success that when CC returned with the GIs in 45, they after a while incorporated it into their standard product range.

This was supposedly the old Fanta "juice" without gas, if anybody remembers it, not the relatively new orange Fanta.

The P40 is my weapon of choice in Pacific Fighters at present.

I find the Jap planes to be turd at doing anything other than flying in straight lines.
