I've never seen a belt snap on it's own.

It always seems to be the rollers, if you have shinne SBD metal items, then you could run to 50k on the rubber band, provided you check it's condition every service.

I got a new belt at 56k (3rd belt) ... 12k later it snapped when the water pump collapsed.

... 1.4 16v ... all 16v had to be replaced, water pump, pistons, head rebuild, head skimmed, air con recharged and sealing all valves and springs . that's what happens when the cambelt snaps at 70

IMO the waterpump/rollers/tensioner/belt should all be replaced at the same time..... a water pump is only £30-£40

Changed Cambelt on my 1.4 16v Sport at 40k, then it snapped at 48k, bent all 16 valves, fucked a piston, needed loads of head work. Cost £700 to fix. But it was never the same again, used to use lots of oil etc, ended up putting new 1.6 16v in it.
