Saturday 16 July 2005 sees the return of the renowned dance event and outdoor dance pioneers Tribal Gathering, to the fields for the first time in eight years in Leeds. Over 30 acts have been confirmed so far including: Groove Armada, Audio Bullies, Danny Rampling, Mike Pickering, Layo and Bushwacka, Zero 7, Plump DJs, Joey Negro, Norman Jay, Bugz in the Attic, Dave Beer and Bez from the Happy Mondays!!
Exactly 20 years after Live Aid, Tribal Gathering returns for the first time in eight years in a huge fund-raising venture organised by David Vincent and the Playing Alive Foundation. All profits from the event will go to the Playing Alive Foundation, a charity that will then pass it on to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) in aid of the massive humanitarian disaster in Sudan.
Tribal Gathering will be an open-air festival and will accommodate 20,000 dance revellers. In typical Tribal Gathering mysticism, the location is being kept a deliberately guarded secret – all we can reveal is that it will be set in ‘secret enchanted woodlands’ near Leeds. Although the exact location will be revealed a couple of weeks before the event.
Four on-site arenas have been confirmed, these are: Live Arena 1 (Starship Universe/ Playing Alive), Arena 2 ( ‘Tribal Sessions on the 360 degrees Tower of Sound’, Arena 3 (Lovebox) and Arena 4 (Soap Bar).
Some of the biggest and most influential names in dance music have already confirmed their place on the Tribal Gathering line-up – ALL of whom are donating their time and talents free of charge.
Having announced that this show will be their ONLY live show this summer, Groove Armada will be treating the Tribal Gatherers to a DJ set of funk and dance classics. Bez from the Happy Mondays and recent Celebrity Big Brother winner, is also lending his unique talent to the Tribal Gathering bill, promising a mixture of early rave and the 90s baggy ‘Madchester’ sound as epitomised by his two bands Happy Mondays and Black Grape.
Other additions to the incredible line-up include London DJ legend, Norman Jay as well as the relaxed electronica of Zero 7, Mylo, Stanton Warriors and Canada's finest dance export - DJ Tiga
Tribal Gathering will be announcing many more acts and a comedy stage is pending. They are hoping that they can raise funds for the starving in Africa and raise the profile of the Playing Alive Foundation.
