Are there any broadband providers apart from virgin.net where you aren't tied into a 12 month contract?
At the moment I'm only on 512k broadband with unlimited downloads for £24.99/month, but was wondering if there are any other providers that can do a better deal (I don't want to be tied into a 12 month contract).

You can cancel a contract easy with any 12 month provider.
If you request your MAC code the ISP has to give it to you and then its the lossing ISP's issue to chase outstanding funds.
This is regulated by Ofcom.

im on nildram at the moment and they gave us 2 meg even tho BT told them the line loss was > than 40db. Had it tested and our line loss is 52db and we get lots of dropping out.
Nildram arent being very helpful on the situation

Surely revert to a slower connection?? phone them up, tell them that its dropping out due the length of the line and that you want to be reverted back to 512 etc etc
If they argue, just cancel contract....simple

Can they not play with the line atenuation to drop the DB level on the line and hopefully hold the connection or like Dom said drop the speed to say 1Mb and try from there.

p.s also try plugging directly to the master socket bypassing all extension cables as they cause lots of problems.

lowest mine has ever dropped to was 51db.
they gave me a new type of extension kit to try, with a new faceplate for the master box with a cat5 output, and a 30m cable with an RJ45 on one end and a box on the other which accepts RJ11 or RJ45.
Havent got round to trying it yet though.
