Business Inspiration came via Brutal Assault
Local businessman encourages councils and crime prevention organisations to consider new technology.
There are many reasons why people in the Bristol region start new businesses such as the thrill of being your own boss and trying to face the day to day challenge of growing a business, but not many can say that it came as a result of being brutally assaulted and then set on fire.
Jodi Myatt’s inspiration for going it alone and setting up Evolution Developments came during his recuperation after being horrifically assaulted, mugged and then set on fire. Jodi then suffering the agonising torment of watching his attackers go free due to no images being captured on the nearby CCTV surveillance system. This flaw prevented his assailants being brought to justice or even being arrested.
During his 8-week stay in hospital Jodi was unable to drink or eat properly and lost three stone in weight, but he used the time and his experience to think of business ideas and his new company, Evolution Developments, was born.
Jodi’s company uses cutting edge technology to try and ensure people do not suffer the same plight. He now stocks, installs and manages a range of web cam based CCTV monitoring systems that can be remotely operated from anywhere in the world.
Jodi commented, “I decided that instead of feeling sorry for myself and suffering, I would use my education and experience in the realm of IT, to develop something that would help ensure that if these people or any other criminals carry out a crime in a public area they would have enough evidence against them to ensure they are punished for these crimes”.
He continued, “Traditional methods of CCTV remain expensive and relatively poor quality and web cams can be set in place at a fraction of the cost with the added benefit of increased quality images”.
The company are now encouraging more local government and crime prevention organisations to consider embracing this new technology.
Jodi and Evolution Developments are now moving back to Bristol having been forced to live with friends and family in Telford whilst recovering from the attack.

The article made it sound like living in Telford was akin to a prison sentance.
