can only get the 2mb connection but thats still £29.99!

We had isdn installed about 6 years ago, cost about £600 and now look at how slow that is compared to most broadband packages

I might set up a website advertising 50mb broadband, but wherever the person is, just say its unavailble in their area, a bit like UK Onlines 8mb.

tbh this is true - its only available in big cities or big towns, due to fact of having to be within 2km range (or something cack like that).

Plus, whats the point in having 8mb connection ive got 2mb and ive only had a handful of sites that max out at 260k, most of the time its well under. Plus, its abit useless have a 8mb connection, when only the upload speed is limited to 512 (although im guessing they limit this to stop people using their connection for servers etc)

although atleast uk online is doing something to catch up with the rest of europe and the world in terms of there connections

End of the day the LLu stinger isnt cheap , theres no point in enabling an exchange that will have 2 or 3 custoemrs on its just not worth it.

If you run the business would you put a 10K stinger into an exchange that only returns you 2K a year?

not a really good business idea is it.

true, but whats the point in bringing out a 24mb package, when only a handful of people will sign up to it?

tbh, i think the cable companies with have the upper hand soon - not only do they have a network that is 10mb able at the moment (can be 100mb using DOCSIS 2/3), ntl is also playing around with ADSL 2 - which they have fibre into green cabs and already have decent copper and short local loops to houses, so they can tap nearly 90% (i think that was the figure) of customers they already have - which is more than any ISP can unless there within 2km range etc.

Plus ntl and telewest are going to be brought together at some point, so that means an even bigger fibre network.

aye, true true. But its the fact that cable can cover more people quicker and cheaper (due to current network size) than any ADSL isp - and im sure alot of companies will feel it if/when ntl roles out 20mb+ ADSL2 - although there mainly doing it to allow for VoD and decent interactive TV etc.

However, i still want to see bigger upload speeds though, would mean propper broadband and decent interactive stuff etc etc
