I am fixing a friends PC to connect to the internet via Modem. I think that the modem installed with the computer is however a US version and not compatible with UK network. (Hardware not Software). How can I tell by looking at the modem board is there any tell tale signs etc.

It said it coulnt detect a dial tone. SO I told it not to wait for one.

It then dials the number, you can hear the tones but the phone line dosent respond. Like the phoneline dosent recognised the numbers.

is it dialling the right number? Is it set to Pulse or Tone?
