On my sealed system, boiler packed up, waiting for someone to come and look at it.

Going to use my Immersion for hot water but i think ive found my problem - the pumps red hot - i think it was caused by there being no pressure in the system which ive now topped back up to 1 bar because it was on Zero - would the fact that there was no pressure in the system have caused the pump to run dry and burn out? Theres AC at the pump but theres no way its turning coz theres no noise or even a slight vibration. Boilers on lockout.

pumps usually red hot it pumps hot water all day

Could have just been air in it and now its primed again its holding pressure

Yeah but not this hot surely - cant touch it! The pump isnt running i dont think - can normally hear pumps running and theres no control wire in it so its not waiting to be switched from the boiler...

As you can see, my concern here is that the pump (that has no local fuse) will slowly get hotter causing it to burn and catch fire.

You cant keep your immersion heater running all day as there constant heat going in but nothing to cool it down

We had this when our boiler was being replaced, plus its damn expensive to keep it running. You need to give it a break an cool down then heat up again

I know your trying but you dont seem to understand - i think its burnt out - i.e. jammed, stalled whatever you want to call it. They dont give you switches to turn these things off.

Fuck it - ill leave it on - if it burns it burns.....

If it is jammed, usually there is a bleed screw on top try turning that with a screwdriver u will know if it is jammed as you wont be able to move it.

My pump has a separate switch with fuse to turn it on/off.

If it is jammed (mine was) you can sometimes free them by unscrewing bleed screw and turning the spindle thing inside with pliers/pump grips.I freed mine this way, but watch out if it does free as water will start coming out so put the screw back on tight.

if it seased up it should be ok for a bit as long as u get the water back into the system
did u know that u have to have a qualification to work on the sealed system as if any thing went wrong u would have no come backs thought id warn you

Ur Talkin Bout An Unvented System

U Have To Have Qualifications To Work On A Boiler That Delivers Over 15 Litres Of Water A Minute

The Reason Y Ur Pump Is Red Hot Is Cause Ur Runnin It Dry An Will Eventually Burn Out

U Need To Top The Pressure Up As U Have Done

not a boiler but any instantanious hot water device so in u have to have it to work on a unvented system
remember if u r going to replace the pump replace the two rubber washers to they should come with the pump

but it will be ok as long as u top it up

The house is under a year old - the heating system is gauranteed for 5 years P&L so they are coming to fit a new pump on thursday.

Pumps still too hot to touch, bleed screw will undo so far then its like a spring, you can pull it out and it springs back in.
