Right my friend bought a new computer with out no o/s installed.

I have a copy of win xp but does he need any boot discs or anything???

And how do you format a hard-drive if you have winxp installed? cause there is no dos to type in format c:

Just needs XP and it will give you an option to format the C:\ when you put the CD in.

Sorry needs to make sure that the machine can boot from the CD.

Cheers so xp boots from cd now?

If it doesnt boot from cd and tries to boot from floppy how do i change the settings? Bios?

Bios and set 1st boot device to CD-ROM.
