Seems like a lot of messing for photos which contain less detail. I suspect it has some security/surveillance benefits?

ha ha ha

This is an email one of the lads has had at work after reading what it said on his website:

Hello, I read your howto on making the webcam an IR camera. I ran
into a couple problems while i was at it. When I opened up my camera
(sony eyetoy) I saw a glass piece connected directly to the board. I
thought this was the IR filter so i smashed it and took it out. I put
the film negative pieces on and put the camera back together. When i
plugged it back into my computer (it was working fine before) it said
"unknown device found". So i took it off and opened it up again, and
to my horror, i took off the wrong glass piece. i found the real IR
filter and removing it, moved the negative pieces to that point.
Still didnt work. I dont know whats wrong, and i wouldnt think that
taking off that other glass piece would have changed anything... is
there any way you can help me? Thanks in advance
