Why a few years whilst there's already 1gbps available in some places.

The UK will never get ahead of the broadband game as long as we wait for greedy corporations to invest in new networks. It won't be until the government steps in, & the whole infrastructure needs a massive overhaul. Or all we're going to be experiencing is 8MB max speed with shitty caps if BT keep having their way.

It's funny how we marvel at our 300kbps internet connection while Japan are enjoying 40Mbps download rates on a fibre optic infrastructure.

fibre optics have been installed for years and years here in the UK, BT were probably the first nation to do it, think it was actually fitted between major cities way back in the 80's, its about funding now though, and getting the government to put money into it so that its available to home users.

To be honest, I dont think theres much need for more than 8mb at the moment from home users, ive got used to the 10 meg LAN connection in halls and its pretty sweet 1 meg at home seems ssssooo slow, you can stream everything with 10 meg, and never have to wait more than aa few seconds for anything really.
