Offence of leaving litter, notice of opportunity to pay fixed penalty (£50) for dropping cigarette end onto street. (Environmental protection act 1990, section 88)
This sucks, any loopholes for her? She has 14 days to cough up but is totally skint!!
Bit of a joke, I mean £50 for a fag end, £60 for speeding seems much more justifyable as you endangering lives...

however, it is a criminal offence to start a fire in a litter recepticle, whether intentional or not
therefore, you're better off dropping it on the floor and legging it, than going to prison for arson and/or criminal damage

Most bins have the attachment for dog ends. And im glad she got caught dropping a dog end, should be locked up IMO

I'm agreed with Tomas here though, £50 is well out of order, being a smoker myself, its often a bit of a bugger carrying a burning fag end around trying to find somewhere to put it, the gutter is convinient, and thats what roadsweepers a for at the end of the day

don't smoke then if you know you can't dispose of it, or stick it in your eye until you can find somewhere to put it

Yes we all know smoking is anti-social etc but those that are hooked its damn hard to quit, or quit and stay thin LOL. I personally dont smoke but its beside the point its the fact at dropping litter, a VERY small piece of litter. Its not like a bloody Macdonalds brown bag full of rubbish its a very small fag end...

ask them to proove it, unless they have video evidence of you dropping it or do a DNA text on the Salivary Amylase on the butt of the cigarette they have no evidenc that you dropped it, it may have been someone elses deposit.

Yes but it cost a small fotune to tidy up dropped chewing gum/fag ends etc,
So rightly so she gets charged helps pay for the cleaning up of the mess.

well at the end of the day she got caught.
I get annoyed when people litter on the streets, when there are bins everywhere.
is it too much to ask to hold on to the litter till you find a bin? I usually keep it in my pocket or bag if i have to.
Look at singapore, think they've got it right!
clean streets, toilets etc, it really makes a difference imo.
I mean, when i clean out the front drive i see all sorts its a pain cleaning up after people all the time!

£50 is a bit harsh.
But the amount she probably spends on fags, if she stopped smoking for a week, it'd probably pay for it
(yes that was a sweeping generalisation as i don't know this person)
