Cyclone Ingrid is now about 200km's from the coastline, and still a category 5, which will make it the first cat 5 Cyclone to make landfall in 90 years. Central pressure is 925Hpa, which is extreme, so its packing wind gusts of 190-200mph

Luckily, it doesnt seem like it will go as far south as Cairns, but Port Douglas is going to take a battering, which is a very large tourist spot with lots of hotels etc.
I hope it weakens before making landfall, otherwise people are going to die i think

its actually been downgraded to a cat4 now, but thats still not good news, will make landfall a bit further north which is a good tthing, since its mostly unpopulated up there.

I tihnk Kuranda is too far south to get the full brunt of it, but will still have winds of up to 120-140mph

well it has made landfall, dropped to a category 3 before hitting the coast, then gained strength to a cat4 just as it passed over the coast! is expected to weaken to a 1/2 but then when it gets to the Gulf of Carperntaria, the Northern Territory is in trouble, the Gulf is about 3-4 degrees warmer than average at the moment, this Cyclone will whip straight up to a 5 again in no time and smash the fook out of Darwin.
