i have udercar neons. Chav or not how legal are they? am i ok to have them switched on wilst driving? also if i get non legal plates but not too silly just a little different, how often am i gona get stoped? is it just down to the mood of the police and am i likely to get points or fine?

neons are illegal unless you have white at the front, amber at the sides and red at the rear as these are the only colurs you can display at these sides of the car. (I think)

i thought they where legal if the bulbs arnt showin, only the glow.

they is not diffinitive answer. legaly speaking if you cant see the tube, they are classed as a glow. which is ok.
but they is not diffinative responce from the police on this. no1 really knows. at the end of the day they can book you whatever

I got fined for my red neons (£30), they gave me a ticket for showing red to the front of the vehicle, didnt say anything about the sides though

You can't show red to the front of a vehicle or white to the rear. Other colours are not specifically prohibited under Constructions and Use Act but I'm sure there something in Road Traffic Act you could be done on.
Plus when they have drawn the attention to your car and you get stopped, the plate will get you fined.

Oh thought i should add they cant give you points for them, as illegal lighting is a non-endorsable offense

Just dont drive with them on to be safe 
you get done for, "imitating an emergency vehicle"
