Need a car thats under £4k and under insurance group 12
These two look fun, been looking at reviews and the 106s dont seem overly reliable. What do you think?
Or any other cars i could look at?

sssshhh obviously you are biased, obviously the 106 slightly out performs the 2.0 astra but i think the astra will be cheaper to run and more reliable

106 is group 13 insurance mate.
Faster, better handling and more fun than the astra.
Dont worry about the reliability too much, thats mostly a myth. I've done nearly 20k in mine over the past year, and I take it to 7200rpm every day, and I have had no trouble
106 will be higher insurance, but better on petrol than the astra.

From somone who has owned a GTI and now have a 1.8 SXI which is really the same car and maybe even quicker 0-60 because of the gearbox i can say they are VERY different cars.
It really depends what you wan't out of a car.The astra is brisk enough to get you round and really comes into it's own once it gets moving whilst the GTI is just a weapon.
I got sick of driving the GTI in slow traffic and found it a real pain in the arse But when it was singing and the roads were right it put a massive grin on my face They are very tempremental too! One day it will be running perfect and the next it will feel like the engine just cannot be arsed which it probably to do with the millions of sensors in the engine maybe not working at there best and sapping power.
Loads of pics in my garage of my GTI..my old astra..and my new astra (Which i'm now selling )
Must admit the astra is still one of the nicest cars to drive day to day.

Both have nothing in common when it comes to speed btw.
My GTI would leave most cars for dust when it was in it's powerband.Miss the little thing a bit TBH.

this is where parkers pisses me off, apparently the 0-60 of the astra is 8.5 with the 106 at 8.3

Evo states the 106 at 7.4 0-60, which is far more realistic than Parkers (which takes its data from manufacturer sources, and peugeot test their cars with passengers/luggage etc)

Mine is 8.5 but after i put the 18's i timed it at 9 secs mate. All using the stop watch on my phone but hey it can't be that wrong.
And put it this way i raced a Merc SL 500 away from the lights in the GTI and was still level with him at 60.I got a perfect start mind you better than i have ever done. The GTI dose 62 in second gear that's why it's so quick at starts.
8.3??? Narrrrr More like 7.5 /7.7
