No it wouldn't. People smoke even though they know it kills them -- I know this cos I smoke.
What would probably make me give up would be a nice surgeon showing me the inside of my lungs...
I've set a date to give up last week so I'm cutting down anyway, but I don't think a novelty ashtray will really help.

No matter how many adverts and ashtrays or health warnings people will only give up cos they want to.
Just cos people smoke doesnt mean they love their family less or their life its just something that is a habit

Ive tried to give it loads of times.

end of the day comes down to unrealistic optimism and cognitive dissonance. these are probably the two biggest factors working against people quitting. the method of fear arrousal to get people to quit, is to be fair, a load of bollocks, when the adverts come on tv, smokers are just going to turn them off

i dont smoke, and i dont liek it, think it makes some peopel look awful and hate the smell in pubs etc, however id never push my beliefs onto others, i understand why people do it and understand how its so hard to quit. im sure theres peopel out there who think you shouldnt drink alcohol etc
