Got a compaq Presairo with

3000+ athlon Processor
120 gb hard drive
512 mb ram
128 mb video memory

Had an old comp blow up just wanted to know if I can salavge any parts from the other and add it to this one to increase it's speed

old comp was
1.5 ghz
pentuim 4
40gb hd
256 ram

accualty do compaq still have there own ram, anyway use the second hard disc.

depending what type of disc it it but yeah should be picked up in the bios

just hook it up should be enough spare leads inside and space, try the ram, i know years ago compaq did there own parts but they might have changed now.

depends what type of RAM it is. SD or DDR

The RAM in the old machine probably won't be fast enough to work in the new one... Old one will probably be PC2100 -- new will be PC3200.

Hard disk will be fine though.

if the drive doesnt work straight away then change the jumpers. Im guessing it was set as master before as it had the OS on it, so you will either need to set it as slave on the same cable as your current hard drive, or master on the other one if nothing else is connected.
