there is no reason why you can't swap over to a different case. All motherboards are generally the same shape and size, since Dell use OEM parts like Abit or Chaintech or MSI. Just have to be weary of where the PSU is situated.

coud possibly change it over, but it might be an arse as i've seen how dell build their boxes and it can get rather queer.

might aswell give it a crack though

Dell use standard size (unless old Packard Bells etc) ATX motherboard. They are actually Abit, MSI, Intel, etc, etc motherboards rebranded.

ONLY issue is, they custom wire the power connectors, so if you plug a non-Dell motherboard into a Dell PSU, or vice-versa, you'll fry the motherboard

So you should be able to swap the case with a bit of work, depending on whether the dell PSU will mount in the new case. If not you'll have to rewire the new PSU -- don't just plug in a standard ATX PSU though

What can't you upgrade with off the shelf parts? Only thing that's a pain is the motherboard -- not due to the size/shape (it's standard as it's not made by Dell). Dell just rewire the power supply so you need to fiddle with that.
