Any tips on how to set it up?
Dont know if they were talking crap but some one told me that the rear speakers are better brought in rather then being in the corners

rear speakers should be at ear height pointing towards the side of your head..I'm sure about 1/2 metre away....

rear speakers should be at -45 degrees to your ears Placing them in line with your ears will give you false information etc.
However, if you cant do the above due to lack of space etc etc then placing them directly behind you is alright
Eitherway, just make sure all speakers are equal distance from your and facing towards you as the other corresponding speaker etc etc Also make sure the speakers are away from walls - distance depends on size of speaker, but a bookcase size speaker should be roughly one metre away from walls (all sides) to limit repeated sound reflections (causes 'mudness' otherwise).
Also, if you AV amp allows to to do volume changes on each speakers, then make sure you use it and set it up correctly - depending on distance from your tv front speakers etc, then usually the centre has to be up (only small changes btw) more than the others, and the fronts more than rears. If you have a rear centre, then that has to be alittle louder than the rears and roughly the same as the fronts

all depends where you have the tv,
if its in the corner you will stuggle to get best sound
need the fronts about 1 metre either side of the tv, the centre under the tv,
the rears need to be behin the listening position and at ear height seating, also distanced evenly eaihter side of seating position and from the fronts!
all depends on price as well, i used to install and sell this stuff for a living, so anymore q's im free to help!
Misson do a good package for surround sound fs2-av, i think its been updated and was £400 sounds ace and flat panel spekers that fit into corners and to the wall!
Also the sub can be anywhere in the room, behind a sofa but not close to the seating position

if its a relatively high end system, it might be worth getting one of those setup dvds that come with loads of test tones and images for setting op the contrast, white balance, sharpness, audio levels etc You can get cheapish SPL meters too, to help you set it up properly, but I did it by ear. If its a plasma screen, then the tv wont need much adjusting anyway as they are not as prone to colour bleed and bending lines due to how they work. Good luck!

if your running a seperate av amp, the tv has sweet F.A to do with the sound
As for the sub, it can be placed absolute anywhere in the room, as anything below 80Hz is impossible to pinpoint by ear etc etc However, majority of subs can handle 200Hz+, and at that point your ears are able to pinpoint the sound source, which is bad for bass etc etc - so make sure you have filters applied on the sub if its possible, and make sure its an active jobby (has a self powered amp built in, just need a feed from av amp etc) to give best performance etc
Centre speaker should also be ear height and i would play around with placing it either below your tv screen or sitting it on top (as close to the actual picture as possible)
However, remember there is no deffo rules about this all, as it obviously depends on how tall you are, your seating position, the picture height, distance between you and the picture, how close walls are to your, how big of an area you need to cover etc etc So just generally play around with it
IntaCepta - as for your setup, i would just place the rear (thats miles away lol) near the other and leave out the other seating area (im guessing thats what it is), because i can imagine how cack that must sound
However, you could start introducing repeats, like they use in cinemas - you obviously start running it a number of problems and the cost, but you could switch speaker sets on/off depending on whos sitting where etc etc

thing is mate, you start at spending a few hundred quid, to getting into thousands with using special speakers and using maths/physics to work out best position of speakers (that wont suffer from reflections etc)
But then again, its horses for courses

Thats a pretty neat setup
Only thing i would change is to place the centre on top of the tv, as your bed is absorbing all of the sound - just use loads and loads of blue-tac lol
TNM - you can download the dolby digital intros, dont ask me where because i havnt got a clue (but i did have them once). But you need a dvd burner to burn them on DVD etc etc Although alot of decent av amps have built in test tone setup etc etc
