Yea i though it wasnt bad, but im not that happy with it tbh - the pads/strings are weak as and the overall structure is a bit bollox personally (bit repeatative in places i think)....

But yea, ill carry on working on it over the next week or so and try and put a bit of polish to it

It's great so far... I'll get them to play it when it's finished at one of their smaller night... Saturday or Thursday, and have them send me feedback... they are always up for playing stuff by lesser known producers.

all done in fruityloops (has the cackest sound engine ever though but still) and about 5 grands worth of plugins/samples and a few bits of outboard gear

although i might take it all into Sonar or Cubase (may use Protools if i can be asked to install it and buy some decent compressor/limiter plugins) for mixing/mastering/structure, depends if i can get a good enough mix and sound from Fruityloops

bought software and sample CDs - Also have downloaded a few from samplecity.net and other places

Although alot of stuff i use in tracks have been compressed/EQ's etc to death - take the reverse swoosh sounds from this track, that is a cymbal crash from a yamaha kit with an added pitch slide and loads and loads of reverb. I think it came out pretty well, although it starts to crackle towards the end with the sample being stretch so much

what you using mate? I remember you just starting to get into production etc
Personally i would stay away from Fruityloops - its great for doing beats etc, but mastering and mix is a right pain as automation isnt that great. However, ver 5 is suppose to be a LOT better...but ive yet to upgrade. I would grab something like reason (more expensive) but does have a decent sound engine and offers similar sampling bits like FL. Or run something like FL and a decent editor like sonar/cubase and then once you have created all of yours parts in FL, bounce them down to wav file and load them into your editor for mixing/structure/mastering etc etc

aye, that just a sound editor and multi-tracker - get yourself something like reason or something mate, as you will beable to create your own drum loops etc from samples rather than using loops etc

Dave - yea FL isnt the best, i have got to grips with automation though, but something like protools cains its arse all over the show for audio work though. But like you said, its a very long process and can drag after a while
Never used logic, and have never managed to get my hands on the old pc versions - but it any good? Shame its gone to Mac now though instead of being both

ok, gona b honest here:

intro is WAAAAAYYY too long, dont get into the breakdown until 2 mins, and for those 2 mins there isnt alot happening. the 1st intro is nice, but other than that its pretty basic, need so extra effects in there, and cut down dramatically.

the breakdown is nice, but again, WAY too long, nearly 2 mins unil it drops.

and the drop isnt that great either, u need a snare running through until the drop, to create some energy.

once it does drop, the kick is no way thumpy enough, u need to FEEL it. also add an off beat bass to accpmany the stings. The high strings get a bit repetative too, its like the track is stuck record

it needs more breakdowns, beat changes, booms, effects, percussion changes, string effects messed up with (phazers, reverbs etc)

obviously thats my opinion

but uve got a nice base ther, jus needs shortening ALOT and more put into it, u want to keep the listener interested, wondering whats next.

aye lad, i think the front bit is too long as well - but im trying steer away from the usual, intro two breakdowns etc etc that most dance/trance songs have.

Yup the breakdown sucks and the whole snare thing, nice TR808 snare used, is more than shit But i think ill add a running kick (ie: 2/4, 1/4) as well during the breakdowns and use more filtering at those points.

Aye, the pads are weak as and so im thinking drop in another with an lower octave and widen them in the stereo field to give the whole song more width ill give it ago using a phaser or flange on the pads/strings, especially during the breakdown section.

Things that i wasnt sure about was the drop kicks (booms), i thought it became repetative after a while...but again ill play around

Yea, during the main sections etc the kick is abit weak, but the due to lack of propper mastering - automation, volume changes etc etc But ill will loosen the compression and EQ on the kick and tweak it to fit into the bass alittle better

Its far from finished mate, but cheers for that as there are some real useful pointers to add to my already full A4 sheet of stuff to do on it

that might be in the pipe line, not sure yet - depends if i can get a decent mic and vocalist. Although it would lift the whole track quite abit...soo

aaron02 - yea reason is expensive mate Its about 300-400 quid, but you do get a few gigs worth of samples and a few decent plugins etc etc. Although it can be had alot cheaper if you know what i mean

lol

Ill try and boost the kick abit in the 100Hz region and see whats happens But ive already EQ'd quite abit to stop it bleeding into the basslines (there are two that make it up) and casuing 'mud', so ive had to cut alot under 60Hz and drop it a tad around the magical 250Hz. But i think its mainly to do with lack of volume and the fact that its a punchy and sharp kick rather than a bouncy kick used in most hard dance/trance tracks etc
