They are not the most reliable of cars. My mate has had four coil packs and about 6 heater thermostats in the last 3 years, and she bought it brand new. Her grille and loads of interior bits have also fallen off. Including the gear knob, which has come off in her hand several times.

Coil packs are a common fault on the 1.8T petrol lumps, it was on Watchdog

as for the PD

But the interior stuff, that is not good !

Shes been unlucky then. This cars are in fact VERY reliable and wont show problems if servicing is done properly.

Im assuming he'll be on about ether older ones or smaller engine/lower insurance group ones as hes been after a first car - so 1.8t isnt gonna be an option

theyre not bad but get an as new oen as possible if u get one - -VAG group means theyre gonna be fairly reliable and easy to source parts for

The car in question is a 1.2, 3 cylinser bought brand new on a 52 plate. It also has a full Seat service history, so she has looked after it. Maybe it's just bad luck, but I don't think she is the only Seat owner in our area that has experienced these faults.

does it make much difference where the cars are assembled?

looking under the bonnet in my old cupra most of the components had an audi or vw stamp on them.

so if they use same parts why should they be less reliable?
