yeah i went to the careers office last year before i started my degree, i thought about a pilot officer, but they wanted me to go to uni, and they would have paid for it, but i would have to sign up for a longer period of service, so i decided on doing the degree myself, and then joining afterwards - giving me more options.
the selection process is hard. you firstly have to go to a lecture where they gove u info on the RAF. then you have to learn that stuff and more, and you have an interview, then theres the fitness tests and hand eye coordination test. its not an easy task.
i dont want to burst ya bubble, but im saying it how it is. but definately go for it.. you will be fine.
what did u want to do in the RAF?

I joined the UAS last year and was training to be a pilot. But I got kicked out
Basically I had my initial interview, really informal then I got asked to go for a more formal interview, then down to Cranwell for the full medical and aptitude tests!!
Then I got accepted and thrown out 5 months later

You don't want to be joining the RAF because you won't be able to come on Corsa Sport
I would never deprive myself of CorsaSport for a job, get an office job then you can come on here all day forever

They said I had to go to this well posh function and that I would get home at about 5am. I used to start at 5am at my work so I told them I couldnt make it and they threw me out
They were probably looking to throw me out after I got in a fight with a pilot playing football though
I was considered a bit of a chav

The officer side of the armed forces just perpetuates the awful class system we have in the UK. If you want most people on an airbase to think/know you are a twat....be an officer.
I left the RAF in 1990 after coming to within an inch of belting an officer. Big kids, the lot of them.
Oh, and the officer pension is not anything like it used to be. Good.

totally agree with that 100%, there seems to be this hidden hierarchy in the RAF in my experience especially with the UAS.
I found the engineers to be totally sound and down to earth, the officers on the other hand

Heya people, I'm gonna join the RAF as an officer, Just wondering if y'all can tell me what it's like. I'm in college doing my HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise and then off to University to get my degree and then apply as an Physical Education Officer in the RAF. Wondering if anyone can give me advice on what to expect or how it works etc?
Cheers

see id like to join doing a trade for the fact that i think there would be less pomp than as an officer, but at the same time, i dont want to sell myself short id like to do something that would see me fulfil my potential.
Ive got all the info from the RAF and ive been in touch with them about becoming a pilot, im going down to the careers office in the next few days to get the ball rolling.

ive spoken to my careers office and they told me that you don't need a degree, but they like you to do an in-service open university degree if they accept you as a non-graduate

i shouldnt worry too much about that, you aint gotta be that fit or anything, most RAF workers have a nice amount of "winter fat"

fitness test was a piece of piss, Its a bleep test, situps and press ups, a lot of the pilots I met were, "festively plump" too, so I wouldnt worry about that
The aptitude tests are like computer games, just do some hours on the Playstation and you will be fine
Then when you get in you can see where all the taxpayers money goes, happy hour in the officers mess is carnage, free food too

Hey all, Is that all the fitness tests are, Sub maximal test (Bleep test) and MSE (Sit ups ans Press ups). Anyone know about the Physical Education Officer job, It says Degree but professional qualifications also considered, Does HND count as a professional qualifications along with First Aid at Work, Coaching awards for both general sports and Rugby ?
