Is there any way of finding out the IP address of where a hotmail address was registered.

The account johnwest64@hotmail.co.uk was setup to send me an email thats caused a few problems and i want to know who set it up

I doubt it, only hotmail will have a log of their ip on their servers but i'll doubt they'll tell you.

try contacting hotmail, shouldnt be too hard to track him, since .co.uk has only just become a registered domain. Also, get yourself a decent virus/worm tracker and anti-hijack software

oh i thought it was a virus or something. you were being quite vague in the original post. sorry, Just send him a virus or two, or get him into MSN messenger, get his IP from a program from www.mess.be and flood him or something.

You can find the IP of the email, ie where it came from. Its under the msg options in the email or something, then you can trace that ip.

I think thats what your after Or did i read the post wrong

ok i have the IP and i found out the guy is on NTL, apart from contacting NTL is there anywhere i can go from here?

I think it gets a bit dodgy... I had the same problem once, and found out the guy lived in a particular town and in a big building and thats as far as i got...

phone them up or send an email to their abuse address, they will sort it out mate - go for the former though if you want it sorted ASAP

there is a program called neo something, the FBI use it too, and its free to try, cant remember,but it gives graphical representation to location of originating IP

you never gonna find out anyways mate -
if its dial up then you'll have no chance mate.

if its via a cable modem (ie: broadband) then closest you could track it is to the local UBR (similar to an ADSL exchange etc) - but that can be anything up 10miles away from location (usually with a mile or two max though).
After that you wont get anywhere mate Obviously you could try and get him to run something like a sub7 server (packed into some game or something) but his AV will pick that up anyways.

but tbh mate, it gotta be someone close to know about your missus etc etc - so just start working backwards and see who you get

i just dloaded neotrace but it just comes up with southampton which is where the NTL ip originates so its useless
