hey...
my boss asked me about a month ago what my future plans were. being honest I told him that I was thinking of applying to get a work visa to coach football in Canada. when I told him this he said that if I got the visa he would pay me off instantly, even though I'm under contract.
I've just got back today from a 3 week holiday in Canada so I ring into work to find out what time I start on Monday. the guy in charge of me asks if I got my visa so not being stupid I told him no (don't actually know yet if I have it), so he said fine it's ok for me to come back.
can he threaten to sack me because I want to better myself in life and maybe get a job abroad?
... sorry for the essay but the financial situation I would be left in is a bit grim

seems like you'd have grounds for unfair dismissal if you ask me mate.

yeah well I'm really not sure what to do ... if I get the visa I might just keep quiet and spring it on him out of the blue one day when I hand in my notice

yeah he is ... the power has got to his head I think ... he's just really petty mate, like for example, since I told him all the new work clothes arrived, he has decided not to issue me with any because I may be leaving in 5 months although everyone alse in my squad has new kit and we work outside all day everyday .... fcukin pathetic

when I was at uni in canada I did my ontario soccer association coaching levels 1 and 2 .. means I can coach up to 18 year olds ... they emailed me before xmas and asked if I wanted a coasching job with them reliant upon me being granted a visa ... would be stupid to turn it down

one of the guys at work told me to write a letter to the owner of the company when i leave and stick my boss in ... the owner has no idea that this stuff goes on but he doesn't stand for any shit because he's an ex-army officer
