Just had a call from Vaux about my service on my car (corsa C - 20,000 first service) and its gunna cost £250.

Thats for service, some new oil, "a few bits under the warranty", new brake pads, and new window wipers.

Is that alot??

Ouch. Thats a heffty sum to say the least! I had my 20k service done the other day though. Had Oil and Filter change, Pollen filter, Fuel filter, Air filter, and spark plugs (Vaux dont do this @ 20k). Wiper blades are all fine, and pads have amazingly still got loads of meat left on them, even tho their the originals.

Parts came to a grand total of £32 from Vaux . Took half hour to change the oil, if that, and the rest of the filters are being done today .

Gotta love Vauxhall Trade Club

Just to make you feel worse then, the brake pads are about £13 + VAT, and wiper blades about £3 a piece + VAT.

I'm Sorry

is it worth it for a full vaux service hist though nah!

I havent had my car serviced by a franchised dealer..... ever..... and very rarly at all by a garage now unles im to busy or its shity weather...

oil changes, filter changes are so simple how can you justify paying to do it?

the down side is the stamp issus tho but if you keep receipts etc and seem genuine enough come sale time that shouldnt make much odds

Its pretty sickening really. Admittedly you do need to be part of a buisness to get those prices, but it makes you think how much profit they must rake in from customers. It'd be great if you knew your car was in the best hands too, but when you hear stories like This its kinda off putting .

This is the problem with the C's, for the first 3 years you get a warranty, but its only held open if you get the car serviced by an official garage and have the service book stamped. Only reason i can get away with it is ive got the reciept for all the bits, plus the old mans taking the book in to get it stamped .

Only reason i took it there was cos ive done 20,000 in under a year so wanted it to be done by where i got it from - never again. Also was told Warranty would be void if i took it elsewhere.

Will be local garage on the corner of my street from now on!!

there was something in the papers about warrantys being void...

im sure its untrue because this is a way of big corporations trying to gain a monopoly on the market with regards to new and nearly new cars...

it does not seem like fair trade an is detrimental to smaller businesses because people are reluctant to take there car there because the warranty wil be void.

To be fair, in a brand new car, not much should ever go wrong with it that would be needed under warranty anyways, so like you say, just big companies trying to discourage people taking there cars to smaller garages, whislt charging the customer an arm and a leg at the same time

try taking a car to our vw garage... its £95 an hour + vat.. and its 1.6 hours book time for a 20000 mile service
then 1 hour for brake pads and 0.2 hours for wiper blades, then theres the cost of parts..

so no £250 aint that much imo from a main dealer

20k on the original oil? I bet it comes out in a sludge lol You should change the oil every 6k, even more so on a new engine when everything is getting worn in

Usually have to have it changed at about 3k from new too though, which gets all the shit out from as you say it being just worn in.
