the best sort of mdf to use for an isntall is there a certain grade or will any mdf do?

yeah apparently its thick enough to not rattle but thin enough not to be heavierer than 9mm> obviously.
dont just take my word for it though but i knoiw i read that somewhere

I used 12mm and its ok. used 18mm to make 2 sub boxes and they are nearly 4 stone between em. they gotta go

u need 18mm for sound quality, if u make boxs etc.. from 12mm they will flex and not sound as good. i use all 18mm on mine.

For my false floor i used 12mm, for the box its 18mm.
