Just saw how speed cameras work last night, the two pictures are taken then someone sits there and views the images, the amount of notches in the road travelled = how fast you are going, one notch = 5mph, sounds VERY innaccurate to me, what happens if the person miscounts?? or if the notches are slightly innaccurate, or bumps in the road etc.

But if it flashes then you're over the limit, so the speed camera must know...

So why get someone to sit there?

Because theyt need photographic evidence to back up a prosecution in court! The camera detects the speed of the car using doplar shift(radar) and then the two photgraphs are aken at a precise time interval so by counting the lines they know distance travelled. Speed = distance / time!

The lines are obviously painted precisely on the road otherwise there wudnt be much point. If you see them being painted they not done with a bloke and a brush!

well there will be error margins yeh but not so much that you will be prosecuted for doing under 30. The camera will not flash until approx. 36mph to allow for such errors.

Sometimes they just flash you for doing under the limit I'm now glad they are manually checked and it's not just an automated system
