i need to connect a lap counting devise to my lap top.

the lap top only has USB's and the lap counter has a serial connnector.

so i bought a cabble that allows me to connect the serial to the USB, but i need my lap top to reconise that as a COM. how do i do this?

Think you can do this by adding a service in the associated network settings.

plug it in and maybe install the software, then it should see it as COM4 or something.
