started to fit my new suspension today but got to the second front strut and cant get the damm top nut undone. tried a blowtorch tonnes of wd40 broke 3 ratchets and still nothing. i think its gonna be a garage job to get the top plates off the old strut.

When my old shock top nut rusted on, I had no choice in the end but to reach for the angle grinder...

Set my foot on fire in the process too

1. Get spring compressors on the spring, compress it and slide it up to the top of the strut
2. Cut off the cup part that the spring seats into
3. Slide the spring down again over the lower part of the shock
4. Pull piston all the way out and cut it
5. Put out the fire thats started burning through your trainer
6. Remove Spring
7. Clamp end that you cut off in a vice and use a breaker bar to release the nut. It doesn't take much, main problem workin on the car is how the piston spins in the shock
8. Discard old bits
9. Fit new components and feel proud of yourself for being so manly when using an angle grinder
