my car has been playing up for about a month now and the engine warning light has come on loads times.
i rang up vaux deciding to get it fixed this mornin and he said bring it down and we'll hook it up to tech2.
so off i went, get down there and hes out there for about five minutes and comes back in and was like erm
"so has the warning light come on then?"
i told him yes many times specially on motorways
and he was like
"well, the ecu hasnt picked up any codes im afraid"
so hes booked it in for next week for poor performance.
im just wondering how much and what its gonna be?
lucky i didnt pay for the tech2 diagnostics

The poor performance is down to it being a 1.0 12volt No seriously though, They are shit for recording faults. The light shows when it notices a fault and it will store it in the memory for so many starts. Like for example if you start the engine more than 10 times after the light has been displayed (asuming the fault is nolonger detected) it will wipe the fault code from the memory. Well that the theory. In practce they sometimes dont even record it at all for some reason!

does the engine management light come on at a particular time? ie. can you make the light come on by the way you drive?

yeh i can, for instance, if im on the motorway and it starts climing up hill, if i floor it in fifth it will loose power and i will usually have to change down to fourth to pick up the revs or it cuts out. also early mornin it wont go over 2.5k revs in second until it warms up then i can feel the engine open up and it'll go over it. tis very annoying tho
