Basically i have 2 keys for my car, what i want to know is, if i start it up so that it can defrost leaving one key in the ignition, then use the other key to lock the door - will this work or will the immobiliser kick in?

I've done this in the past and the car continued to run. Even if the immob did kick in it would only stall, nothing would break.
Bear in mind its a bit illegal to leave your car running whilst unattended.
