On Sunday was reversing into car park space. My mate then drove into between where I was and the car park space.
Before reversing I looked around and in mirrors. I started reversing and while i was looking in the rear view mirror he came out of nowhere and I hit him. Damage to my car is broken left rear fog light and scratches on lower bumper. Went to garage today and looks like the actual top part of bumper is damaged too so will all need to be replaced. Damage to his car is a bump on the door and side panel. Based on the look of it his would cost more to fix but its an old car (13 years) so it may just be worth him panel beating it out or something.
I personally think it was mainly his fault but he thinks its 50/50. He said he thought I was going to forward into another place. However I had stopped for a few seconds and would have had my reverse lights on. He was not sure so tried to quickly go through the gap!?
If claim on insurance will lose couple years of no claims

If its not your fault (which by the sounds of it it wasnt) then your no-claims wont be affected

yes and no - other ppl where around but no sure if saw anything plus they are all kindoff friends too. Someone easier if not friends and then can take them to the cleaners!! Hehe
The only thing where i think it was not all his fault was that i was not actual turned around and looking but looking in my mirror. (Although i still may not have seen him in time)

just got a text from mate and he says its £600 or insurance write off. The car is properly not worth £600 - its a 12 year old Toyoto Corolla.
If it is declared a write off and he claims on my insurance etc then does that make a difference to my insurance premium even more than if it was just a minor bump etc.
Not got my quote yet but should be in the post right now. If mine costs a fair bit i will have to claim as well - i guess thats what insurance is there for - when accidents happen

Insurance now take into account any claims no matter who is at fault

if it really is a write off for his (damage not that bad cause still very much drivable but the value of the car is not that much). He can get a new car out of this!

claims do depend on the amount of the claim, it isnt about the fact of wether its written off or not!
Its the total amount paid it by the insurers basically!
