What is it your selling?
Are there other similar items being sold?
How consistent is the close price of similar items?

The more info, detail, effort you put into the add the better it looks.....ive found only inserting 1 ebay pic of items (there crap size anyway and expensive to keep adding) and add links with lots of good quality pic's you have hosted goes down a treat with buyers.

Unless its a really bizarre item which may not see interest, I always start at 99p and make sure they don't close at the weekend, less people online.
There's no nack to writing the ads as such just give enough information but not too much and nothing copied and pasted from web sites etc. you look like a scammer who doesn't know the product.
Two or three pics for each of it in a natural setting ie. on a table, kitchen worktop etc. so it looks like a real photo and again not something you've pinched off the web because you don't actually have it.
I spent ages photographing stuff on a white background with all the proper lighting for a few items ages ago and I got a load of emails asking me for pictures of the actual items not pictures out of a catalogue, which although is vaguly complimenty is also bloody annoying.
