I have some money i would like to do something with rather than blow it but i am struggling to think what i can do. I
want to do something that will get me some return for the future so either a good investment or my own business.
I have already bought some shares in RBS who i work for as i saw thier year end figures and they made something like 13 billion profit last year

Any ideas please

it depends how much return you want on ur money and how much risk you're willing to take. high risk is invest it in shares and u will hopefully see a bigger return quite quickly, if not go for low risk bonds or summin.

sounds to me like u dont know much about starting up a business (no offence intended) so if u wanna do that go to some seminars to get some ideas and stuff.

finally the last thing i can think of is investing it in property, buy a small flat and rent it to students, gets u a steady monthly income and u know ur moneys workin! hope this helps

Kerry if your serious about starting a business you could..

there is multiple ways to get started money wise you have

Government grants, bank loans these can help with the initial settin up of the company.. property,stock...

your bank will ask for a business plan and stuff but a pack is available from the Business gateway i believe to help you with that!

as for how you go about it there's business management courses you could go on..

all you really need is some collateral

do you think the folk that started up their businesses had a clue how to to start of with??

Learn.. try the Business gateway on an advice pack that will give you a start on how to Start up your own business..

also do a Business management course which will help you with managing the business once it's up and running!

and personally i'd keep that money as capital.. use the bank loans and government grants to fund the business and if it all goes pear shaped you have the capital to fall back on

...hence the reason i've not gone rushing headlong into it

Its ok saying the industry is flooded.. but if you make a good name for yourself, and the work is of a high quality, you can't go far wrong.

My mate's cousin owns Xtreme Audio in Radcliffe, Bury.. he's constantly fully booked with jobs, and they don't even advertise!

Thanks for wishing me good luck, but I don't need it just yet, as I've got a lot of planning & research to do.

Then you own property... It is the best thing, in my opinion, to be spending money on... If you are renting where is the come back from that? You get somewhere to liv, but when you move on you get nothing back out of it. Especially as at the moment you are unlikely to loose money owning property... If you have a specific idea for a business that is in a niche of a market you think you can take over then it is a good idea to take the risk.... But otherwise you could end up loosing the lot. Investing the money in savings accounts is also a good idea too, depending on if you want to risk the money or not, you could buy shares e.t.c... Or make use of high interest long ter savings accounts. Just got to remember that the profit you should make is a fair way off...

Pay the mortgage and offset that with rental income. £10k is enough to put you in profit (not much though) month on month, and you have a nest-egg.

Just a risky area, like you say you need a good name for yourself, if you are a reputable company then your laughing - can take business away from the cowboys out there Like you say, needs a lot of research, need to do things slightly differently to get attention to yourself over other businesses
