Hi Guys,

Just registered on the site as I am going to look at a Corsa Sport on Sunday. Just wondered if you can point out anything I need to watch out for / any weak spots etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Chris.

PS: - Here's what I'm going to look at.

VAUXHALL CORSA 1.4 16v Sport , 1996 N Reg , 52,000 miles. This fabulous 2 owner vehicle is in showroom condition, and has full Vauxhall service history, drives and looks as new, please do not confuse with the tired boy racer examples with similar mileage but no history - fools gold is only for fools, proper car, original radio, alarm, full MOT, superb engine, very fast car, possible part exchange, these cars are near impossible to find in this condition at this price.

The Corsa Sports are a very good little car. Not that fast though, 0-60 in 10.5 seconds and top out at about 110mph.

How much is that one up for? I'm currently selling mine and for sale here;

sounds a bit like immature blurb to me. who would say "very fast car" and mention its a "proper car"

when its oviously a corsa sport like many others

Its up for £2495. Overpriced I know but i'd rather pay the extra and get a minter.

I know the adverts a bit over the top. but I think it sounds good. Its from a garage as well so they're taking mine as p/ex.

That one you have posted up has Corsa C (the new shape Corsa) wheel trims. Makes me wonder if its had alloys on before.

Yeah, I clocked that. Guessing it had the normal Sport / SRi wheeltrims on before and they got nicked / lost.

Make sure you have a good look over it.. dont just see it be blown away and shoot off at the mouth and say "I'll take it"

Take your time think about it, look for mechanical faults such as oil leaks, fuel lines to the inlet manifold crackign/leaking, check suspension(old Push down tecnique), take it for a drive listen for rattles, knocks (may suggest arse is about to fall out the engine), check tyres uneven wear could suggest bad alignment/tracking,

Ask questions before he gets in the car like..

what milages has it done... no-one ever remembers the exact milage but everyone knows within 1-2k of what they've done

When did you buy the car.... gives you a rough idea of ownership, youc an also tell if most the comments in the ad are true i.e someone thats had a car 2 months couldn't say for deffinate it was reliable..

how many previous owner... a car of that age has propbably been passed from pillar to post, long ownership is normally a good thign as the car is treated with a bit more respect short ownership woiuld suggest thrashing then becoming bored of it

Always ask Questions where answers can be found on the V5 aswell

I'd want to see underneath before declaring it a minter, a bit of wax does not a minter make.

You aware of the standard Corsa things to look for? B pilar stress cracks, wobbly front seats (fixed under recall). It wants a cam belt soon as well.

the center pillar, where the door catch is, the corsa usually cracks about midway, below the window..

totally agree with ian on wanting to se underneath, it seems the earlier corsas suffer from the evils of corrosion underneath.

Bit of corrosion here and there isn't a huge worry, its a 9 year old car so its not going to be factory fresh, I just wouldn't pay more because its waxed when underneath its the same as one for £1500 and doesn't have the sales blurb.
