Few days after fitting them, a nail kindly embedded itself into my front driver's tyre!

I kept putting air in that tyre every few days, only got round to getting it looked at today by the place that fitted them, he showed me a big fuck off nail in the tyre!

Anyways, got it sorted, but now the steering wheel seems to vibrate between 60-70mph, checked the air in the other tyres and they are all at the correct levels, checked the nuts on the wheel that was taken off were done up tight, so it looks like I'll have to get the balancing checked on all 4 wheels...

So if one of the back wheels was out of balance it wouldn't cause the vibrating then?

Man I know jack shit about cars it seems!

If you go to ATS or similar then they will check the balencing for free - they will charge you to rectify the problem, however they should have re-balenced the wheel when they repaired/replaced the tyre

I'll just go back to the tyre place I went to yesterday and get them to sort it.

you got alloys? if you got spacers/spiggot rings they could have put 2 of those on one wheel (ie one stuck to wheel and the other stayed on hub and sods law they put the wheel with the spacer on the hub with the spacer already on it, or they could have forgotten to put a spacer back on one side. Either of these things would cause vibration like that.

Yeah but they are only 15" Vauxhall alloys, which came standard on my Astra.

I think they used those weights that stick on to the rim as opposed to the ones you tap on with a hammer or whatever.

Maybe one of them's come off when I washed the car the other day?

would cause some, but more so thru the car rather than the steering

This happened to mine, got new wheels and they needed re balancing as the steering was shaking from 60mph + i just changed my wheels round (back and front) and this sorted it (temporarily of course untill i took it to the garage )
