Hi, ive a mk3 golf 1.9 tdi as a cheap runabout, but when my insurance runs out in few months id like to get another car.
I keep changing my mind what i want, have about 5k to spend (and due to age, nothing over grp 10 insurance)
The options at the moment are;
vauxhall corsa b 1.4 16v on throttle bodies, would be white, white wheels, meshed bumper, bit of a sleeper. not bad performance, fun (but downside is fuel comsumption, insurance, un-reliability/problems as its a modified car, and cost of conversion/modds)
Pugeot 306 hdi (nice as std,a set of 30mm springs, adjusted torsion bar, giving absolutely cracking handling. good on fuel, low insurance (grp 6)downside, quite rare to find a 3-door hdi, and fairly expensive because of this, and french build quality which isnt very great at all)
Tuned nova/ something from the 80's (drawbacks lots of upkeep/hard to find a good example, will be scared to use it incase it gets damaged etc)
Any suggestions greatly received, as i just dont know what i want

And its also got gti arches, ive painted grill badge black, and fitted some mudflaps (mainly to try keep car bit cleaner, but look pretty gd)

remove arches, nooo, i like them! Vr6 splitter is nice, got a seat one (quite deep, but was too short so i cut it down so the splitter is at the corners, stops just before number plate each side.
Anyway back to topic, any suggestions?

I'd suggest I'd keep the TB's corsa idea as they are comfier and safe than putting the engine in a nova for daily duties. On a decent map and close loop running you'll get just as good fuel economy on TB's if you blat everywhere it's shocking, but if your sensible then you can silly mpg.

Just regarding the build quality of the 306, i know french cars have a bit of a rep for being plasticy interiors, i.e saxos, (don't start saxo boys i've had two of em myself, nice car, crap interior) but we have a 2.0 306 xsi and the interior is far from cheap and plasticy, in fact its very solid and feels almost vw ish, the seats are very bucketish and the whole car is very solid and good quality, saying that i don't think the turbo diesels are very fast? Saying that you can tune em and even dump valve 'em so that could be good. Also, don't want to bull it up too much but i must say our xsi handles brilliantly as standard, it'll slide sideways (as i found out one day-seriously) before you get any body roll (and its a 5dr!)

well im only 19, plenty of time for that yet
Looking at this months total vauxhall that came through the door 2day a nova is looking soooo tempting, theres a lovely looking red gsi in the clasefieds, with 17" speedline alloys (similar to oz super legras) roll cage, clear rear lights, huge brakes and std bodywork, looks lovely.
And the yellow c20xe nova on twin carbs, mint!
but with a car like this i wouldnt want to use it in the winter, and insurance might be a bit much, but worth lookint in to thats for shure
