They phone you within a couple hours then send confirmation thru post..........just depends on how busy they are I guess!
You can do it on web also and I think they email you!

ask your local car dealer. i paid a local dealer £15, and he did it for me there and then on the internet. HPI.com. printed off 
would have cost me £35ish to do that. dont know how he done it for £15 
probably traders discount or something

Main dealers like Vauxhall etc. have accounts with companies that do HPI checks, so for example if you wanted to part exchange your car for something they were selling, they would do a HPI check on your car, before working out a trade in price for your old car.
I did one on my Astra on the Internet, cost me £24.99, and they send you out a certificate in the post as well about a few days later.
