my understanding of a insurance company writing off a car is when the cost of the repairs come to more than the value of the car

am i correct

Not the whole value, usually some percentage, 60ish. Depends on its age.

Thats less than 40%, hire car costs for a week or so don't measurable affect it, they'll probably repair it.

well insurance company have estimate, but becasue labour is over £400 they have to send a asscessor out to look at it

its normally about 50% on cars older than 2000 and any newer cars ranges about 60 - 70%

nope but i have a list of whats being done, tis at works bodyshop (vw) and not some pikey backstreet one,

basically there replacing the

b piller,
3/4 panel inner
3/4 outer
sill
door

and all asscioated trim, and repraying all one side and the roof
