i am a smoker and i can see the reasons for a ban------ but it seems to me that when i go out in town at the weekend it isnt fags that are causing people to be bottled or stabbed, it isnt fags that have killed three people in car accidents in my town in the last month, it isnt fags that are a huge catalyst for domestic violence.
Lets face it -- Alcohol is just as destructive a drug as any other. It kills more poeple per year than all other illegal drugs combined.
How can we justify these smooth multi million pound adverts for booze whilst demonising cigarettes and cannabis.
Alcoholism is a terrible disease that ruins life---- yet have you ever seen a drunk person in an alcohol commercial.
If you are going to ban smoking in public places, why not ban alcohol consumption at the same time.-----
Since when has banning things ever worked anyway---- it hasnt worked with drugs or under age sex so i dont see why ciggarettes should be any different.

Having said that-- I would welcome a ban as i feel it would help me smoke less on a night out.... most smokers arnt going to quit because of this though--- they are just going to stay at home

I think any smoker who cant see that it is a stupid, unhealthy and unneccesary thing to do is an idiot----- The trouble is that smokers know smoking is bad, but it is also highly addictive.
Maybe the government should spend a little less money on fighting other peoples wars and a little more on treating and preventing the addiction

Why should they, theyre raking in an absolute fortune on tax off smokers.
In an ideal world for the government smokers would continue smoking as much as they do, but not infect non smokers consequently costing the nhs money.

it always seemed like a huge coincedence to me that alcohol and niccoteen are the two biggest killing drugs, and yet these are the ones which are legal and have been publicly advertised until recently------- its those other drugs which are bad for you of course--- coincedently the ones that arnt taxed....its ok to drink your drug

Smoking relaxes you, like drinking or smoking weed, except it doesn't impair your judgement to drive etc.
However, I've run out of positives for it. While I'm a casual smoker, I can live without smoking when I go out. (I don't smoke around non-smokers indoors anyway).

Is it just another scam for the goverment to make more money out of fines? You are not going to stop people from smoking in public places IMO.
I'm a non smoker, always have been and always will be. I cannot stand the smell, the mess it makes around the house and car and the price of the things.

the ban is protect workers who work in the likes of pubs everyday
people drinking in the pub doesnt affect there health cos they are not forced to drink the alcohol....
however if everyone in the pub is smoking it fill the whole place up with smoke and workers have no choice but to breath it in.....

my dad does smoke but outside or in kitchen with the window open
its hard playing darts in a pub when your eyes sting and you cant see the fecking dartboard.
but thats just me
