As you might already know, my dad has cancled my insurance
I'm thinking about upgrading from a 1.2i twist 3d, to a 1.6 GSI 3d if i can get insured for it as im only 18 and have had my licence only 1 month!
i dont mind paying £1500 etc.
would like some more info on the car really, tried a forum search but 'GSI' is on the 3 word limit.
Would i notice a big difference in power? and how reliable are they? do all gsi's come with airbag, pas and central locking and what is a good price for a early 93 model?

what do u wanna know, it looks nicer, goes better etc..... pas is an option on the gsi is it not? not sure, plenty of info, id deffo do it! well worth the swap

lovely cars, bought mine 6 months ago as a 2nd car for commuting an love it...
Comfy, drives good, easy tuning...
If keeping standard i was with admiral at 18 @ 900quid tpft

PAS is standard on GSi's. Airbag was an option from about dec 93.

I brought my Corsa GSi about 6/8 months ago now.. nice car i admit.. handles good.. got decent performance(nothing special) its comfy, reliable etc etc tbh i haven't really foud much wrong with it its a "fun" car 
But tbh, having your license one month, you're 18(still young) spending around £1500 / £2500 on insurance plus the car(how are you gonna pay for it?!) which is around £1500/2000 for a decent one.
The difference in power would be quite a big jump, plus the sports modifications it would have as its a GSi so you'll deffinately notice the difference. I have a 1995 and mine has airbags, PAS, cetral locking etc and paid £1800 for it
I may be sounding like an old man but tbh i think you are a tad bit too young & in-experienced to be driving a car of that spec & speed plus what ever debt you'll get yourself in to from buyin/insuring it. How ever its your life & only others can advise

I am going to be purchasing a GSi soon as I can now afford the insurance (£600, 1 year's NCB, 1xSP30 @ 24 yrs old), only waited about 6 years for this moment!

you have very little experience mate!!!
it doesnt matter how much of a good driver you are! you havnt got any long term experience of driving a fast car!
i had a nova 1.2 for first year and then got my gsi, and even then it took me good month or two to get used to it!!
i reccomend u wait till its been a year then get a faster car.... the corsa B gsi is a rapid little fooker when its tuned!!

I'd been driving 5 years before I swapped my 1200 for a 1600, and even that was on free insurance.

i loved my old gsi, was a great car, but it was my first car, and definately too powerful for a first car.
i crashed mine through a traffic bollard within 6 days of owning it...
insurance was astronomical

as long as your steady with the power youll be fine! I had a 100 bhp nova as first car, then 75 bhp sport and then 138bhp 1.6 sport and now 160bhp 2ltr and im 19!
But must admit racing experience did help as had sideways once or twice

the reason i wanna upgrade is not mainly for the power of the engine.PAS, electric windows, ABS etc i would love on a car
Its also great to know you have 100+ bhp under the bonnet when the time comes to thrash a saxo.Another reason i really wanna get rid of ther 1.2 is the fuel enconomy, really bad.....i think the engine needs work...as its coming upto 110,000 miles....the performance is really poor....and tbo i'm sick of getting my ass thrashed off the line by shitty french crap that all look the same.I'm gonna start looking around, but i need to sort out my ride quality....as the back is rubbing with 1 person in back....i have 50 on front and 45 tires on back..so doing a straight swap tomoz,, hopfully that will sort it..and its ready to be sold

I couldn't get insured on a GSi till i turned 21, that was doing quotes thru online places though. Didn't even bother ringing up, couldn't afford the car anyway, just wanted to know whether i COULD get insured or not

was that on your own policy or parents?
i think the only way i can get a gsi, is have me mum as main driver...would still be expensize though....but i really want a gsi...my 1.2 is gonna start having problems soon, its running over 110k now....i hate the speedo problem...(10mph out)i hate the rust (on the door panals)...the scrathces, the chips on front bonnet etc.....i hate the dam car well, atleast when i'm driving it....i love the colour though

Admiral insurance - £780 F/C I'm 20 no NCB
Get the GSi, they aren't the quickest in the world but a great step up from the 1.2 and easy to tune.

I owned my First Calibra Turbo at 19. Was paying £1200 FC Insurance.

i get my gsi this week some time, cant wait
people are right though, ide get some driving experience first before getting more power, i know loads of people who went out and baught fast cars for there first cars and ended up writing them off, then pay even more insurance than they paid before 
i started with a 903cc uno, was brilliant car, gave it complete death, then went onto corsa sport 1.4, then golf gti and now at 22 im getting a gsi.

Yes - I am IAM Certified aswell which plays a part, was in a low crime postcode etc..... But still i was paying that on a Calibra Turbo.
Now im 22 - My Corsa GSi Costs £380 FC to insure
That is with Vauxhall Insurance Direct.
