Where's the best place to buy a 106 Gti from?

Just looking around now, to see what sort of prices they go for...

My 1.2 16v Corsa is a bit on the slow side... I really fancy a 106 gti with the only mods being exhaust and lowering springs (only other mods would be on engine) - keep it subtle.

What sort of prices should I expect to pay for a average one?

I've been laughing at these totally kitted up ones asking for £9000+ ... Which I wouldn't want anyway, but 9k! and like 90,000 miles lol...

Would like it to have fairly low miles (around 40ish thousand)

I looked on ebay, but I really would not like to buy anything that expensive through ebay. Autotrader doesn't let me do specific searches for 106 gtis. Just been looking through Pug Gti Autosport classifieds forum. Seen a few for around £3800 ish...

this one seems a bit cheap?

http://www.peugeot-gti.net/forums/showthread.php?s=d963cbbecce4eed4d8b8019c6c5758c8&threadid=86766

It says new engine been put in (which is a bit fishy?), but that's supposedly only covered 18k miles? Got a few performance mods...

The only thing that concerns me about looking at sites like this is I know the owner will have thrashed the arse off it. But can't guarentee he looked after the internals / general maitenance at the same time.

So where should I look? and how much am I looking to pay for a 40ish k mileage 106 gti, fairly standard.

Waiting for my student loan around christmas time and gonna possibly sell my current car... Only problem is I'd imagine I'm gonna be paying through my teeth to insure it - even though in jan I'll be 20, got 2 yrs ncb and pass plus.

If insurance is out of the question, have you considered a quiksilver? ok there not nearly as quick but they look basically the same and cheap to insure. heres mine :

Wait for a good one to come along. Keep your eyes on autotrader.
Saw a V reg one with 55k on the clock for sale for just £3500 the other day and it was local!

The only reason I want a 106 gti is for the speed... so quicksilver would be pointless.
