I'm thinking about getting a brand spanking new car (pre-registered with delivery mileage of course) but I am in 2 minds what to get.

Dont rule out the 1.7 diesel, there pretty quick and can look just as good as any other Corsa C out there plus you get superb mileage

option 3: yeah use the money you saved buying a 1.4 SRi and mod it to try & make it as fast as a 1.8 SRi
i sense a distinct lack of common sense in that statment

i would go for the 1.7 cdti. if you chip it you have the same bhp as the 1.8 but more torque and a lot better mpg.
plus cheaper insurance. and it looks the same. engine will out last the bodywork and it will have a higher resale value.

just like too add, without my chip my car is 150 bhp standard, i also drive a 2.0 fsi 150 bhp a4 for work and the tdi feels a lot quicker (well is actually) petrol feels gutless in comparison once its moving.

Modern diesel engines don't sound like vans though. Apart from vans with modern diesel engines in them. You can easily tune diesels too and they are very reliable... If your going to be using the car every day to get to work e.t.c... do yourself a favour and get the diesel cos you will save lotsa cash then you will be able to mod it more if you wish.

i would choose the diesel anyday. best thing too do, test drive the cdti and the 1.8 then imagine the diesel with even more ooomph if you did decide too chip
take them down the dual carraigeway etc..
best thing is you can drive them quickly without the need to go above 3000 rpm, you dont have too look a prat and use high revs all the time.

i got the 1.4 sri and its a nippy little car that wud b my weapon of choice neway and there are a few nice bodykits out there for it.

The bodykits are obviously going to fit the other 2 aswell 
The other 2 are also faster so there would be no reason to pick the 1.4 apart from a financial point of view.
