Im considering Getting my windows tinted on the car, but being as my last insurance company wanted about £80 for the privalidge, ive been reluctant to ask my new insurers how much they want to try and rape me for.
Anyway, phoned them up earlier to see how much they wanted, and got asked....
"Are the tints above 30% or below?"
"You mean VLT percentage?"
"I dunno, it just says 30%"
"Ok... Well below 30%'s illegal anyway, so i'll go above"
"Ok then.... Sorry we wont be able to cover you with those modifications"
"Hmmm *Thinks*....Right, change it to Below 30% then"
"Ok.... That'll be fine, and theres no premium adjustment"
"Rigghhhttt.... ok, i'll let you know when i get them done"

Well yeah it can really. If you go too dark with the film, your making the car illegal to drive anyway theoretically, so its classed as being unroadworthy, hence, they need not pay out if you try and claim .

Strange that...theyre my cheapest so far for next years insurance, 19 year old, 1 ncb on a 1.2 corsa and theyve quoted me £1159.
Rob, what are Vauxhall like with regards to mods? What else have you modified and how much have they charged you ?

I reckon it will be fully comp cos I'm 19, 1.2 SXi, 1 NCB, and I'm paying £1016 fully comp

Fully comp mate aye...
Got pretty much exactly the same price from Admiral as well...think it was an extra 20quid to Vaux's...trying to ideally find an insurance company that doesnt charge for exterior mods tbh...

Hmmm, not entirely sure. They wanted to charge me £100 for declairing my exhaust if i put it down as Performance enhancing, which realistically its not, so i declaired it as an aftermarket exhaust, and they've not charged me. As i said there not gonna charge for the tints, so thats a good point i suppose. Proberbly best hponing them up for a quote and seeing what it comes out too, then taking 10% off or whatever it is by taking the policy out online, but then phoning up to declair the mods .
For the price of the actuall policy though, they were shit hot for me: No-one else could touch them .
19, 2 NCB '03 1.4 SRi, and they charged me £862 .

Any form of aftermarket tinting film in front of the B pillar is illegal anyway.

Erm, no its not. I know what your trying to say about the new laws, but its not illegal... check the facts before opening your mush .

Obviously the facts you looked at are wrong then . When you get the right ones, you'll realise that its not illegal, and that if spotted by an mot tester, or police officer, they can give you a rectification notice to get the removed, but there not actually illegal to have.
Basically they havent said its illegal to have them, as it'd be very hard to contact all the people who have them to notify them. The reson for this is becuase of insurance companies. If they were illegal, the company could refuse to pay out as the vehicle is un-roadworthy, which isnt fair on the person who's car it is, as as far as there aware, theres nothing wrong with their windows.
