Alton Towers Confirms Launched Coaster for 2005.
Alton Towers' staff newsletter reveals a launched coaster for 2005, albeit with deflated statistics compared to the Thorpe Park version.
Alton Towers only say that it will be located next to the Corkscrew, that construction will begin on September 20th for a June 2005 opening (due to problems with Spinball not really being open fully for the first two months of the 2004 season) and that it will launch to around 62mph in 3 seconds. The launch time rules out an Intamin Accelerator Coaster or an S&S Thrust Air, as 3 seconds is quite a long launch time for just 62mph. However, Alton Towers also say it is a Europe-First ride, which should rule out a Vekoma Motorbike Coaster, a choice that was looked into for a family coaster in Gloomy Wood. With the ride being aimed at 18-30 year olds, then perhaps we will see something a little more substantial.
What other manufacturers could apply? Well, B&M for one.
Then again, no one knows right now what launched coaster Alton will get, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

Alton Towers Begins Work on New Coaster
Today, Alton Towers begins work on their new launched coaster which will fire riders to 62mph in under 3 seconds before taking on an exciting circuit around Ug-Land.
The official website now confirms that Ug-Land will be closed on certain days so the ride can be ready for the 2005 season. Also, from the mouth of John Wardley (that means he has mentioned the following fact in interviews on more than one occasion), that there are no plans to remove the corkscrew.

Info About Booster Bikes
If the plans go ahead for a launched rollercoaster and it turns out to be a Vekoma Booster Bike, we can look foreward to an impressive ride indeed. There is currently only one boosterbike in existance, which reaches its top speed of 47 mph in under 3 seconds, with 2.5 G of accelleration. There is currently a second under construction, but could Alton's be the third?
Video of possible new ride as seen at Toverland in the Netherlands:

Alton Towers version will be similiar but 20mph faster.

A whole host of new rides planned for theme parks across the world:
http://www.coasterforce.com/info/new.php
Check out 2007, The Even Bigger One at Blackpool, hoped to be the tallest coaster in the world. They reckon it'll go out to the Irish Sea They have put aside £25,000,000 to build one.
Also new stuff for Alton Towers and Thorpe Park over the next 2 years

Ug Land was closed when we went so they would have been hard at work excavating the site for the new coaster

I was shocked to see half the queue round the back of Nemesis had been shut off for what looked like a year or two! Gates were rusty and the path was overgrown.
Attendance is down

Thorpe Park's attendances are up. Might have something to do with it. Alton Towers is still number one with me though.
Also there are alot more good rides at Alton Towers and Nemesis has been around for a while, nearly 10 years i think.
