tested my old 12inch car sub on my hi-fi, the sub is fcuked by the way!
worked for few mins then heard it go pop then hi-fi display flashing "PROTECT and PUSH POWER BUTTION"
the manual says if it flashed that in the display it means a big power was inputted???

so i disconnected it from mains and left for 10mins, working now, but the right speaker side which i tested the sub on does NOT work!???
any ideas??

Is there any sound at all?

How did you connect the sub to the amp?

if the sub was knackered, it could have short circuited - wires melted in the voice coil possibly.

If this is the case, then your amp will have short circuited, and could have blown the channel, hence the pop.

Its probably goosed in other words

inpediance is totally different between car ICE gear (4ohms and less) and HiFi speakers (8ohms), so you probably have shorted something and caused the hifi to go pop.

eitherway, it was sony, so what do you expect

whats wrong with sony home hifi systems!
mine was one of the best out when i bought it few years ago!
its weird! i hooked up my more powerfull alpine sub to it long time ago and it worked FINE!

i think as mike says coz the sub this time was damaged it must of shorted the channel out

sony havnt got a clue about hifis tvs are ok (lcd and plasma's are cack though)....but thats about it. And whats worse, people by those all in one units thinking there good for around the 400 quid mark, when you could have brought a decent seperate setup from richer sounds for less + that would sound 100x's better.
And its not about watts either 30wRMS a channel is plenty and you will find that valve amps will be even less, because its about the sound and not how much distortion it can push out at full wack.

eitherway, soooo many people are take in by the whole argos, dixions sales cack...yet a simple copy of "what hi-fi" is all that is needed

It could just be a fuse on that channel. I've done that before.
Blew the fuse i mean not pluuged a car sub into a hifi.

well take a denon cd play (around the 300 quid mark, which is cheap) and put it up against a sony and you will notice mega differences. And the denon have the option for external D/A and different transport units (the tray, laser unit).

But sony tvs are grand though

Sony Home Hifi equipment is good, it's Sony's Car Hifi that let's the company down somewhat.
