Alright, I'm going to go look at a Corsa tomorrow for my first car. Just wondering what I want to look out for, what do I want to check?

Old mans a bit paranoid about getting a cut n' shut job and its kinda wearing off onto me aswell so I wanna know if theres anything in particular I want to look out for.

Its a Breeze 1.2 12v *apparently* and I've been informed by some guys on ere' that they don't make them - only 8v. Oh well
Its done 40,000 and its S reg.

Well they never made a 1.2 12v, they made a 1.0 12v which I believe did come in the Breeze varient.

If you are that worried mate get an AA check, go look at the car, if you like the look of it before you buy get it checked over by the AA. Anyone who is selling a car thats ok wont mind an AA check.

Nismo.
Yes, AA/HPI check should give you ease of mind, well worth the cost if you're spending £1k+ on something IMHO.

check under oil cap for mayonnaise type stuff, check for uneven tyre wear, blue smoke out the exhaust. Do a car check if something dont seem right.

Go to a dealer if you don't know anything about cars -- i.e. Vaux, pug, ford etc. You can get quite good deals

Oh yer, that reminds me - its listed int autotrader as a private sale, but when I rung this fella up today he says that I can come look at it at the Seat Dealer where he works, since thats where he's keepin it - surely if he works at a garage he might not be all that dodgy. Or maybe not. whatever, i'll go tmara and ave a skeg.

Cheers

I just looked on the HPI website, and Im wondering how long it takes em to ave a look. Could I phone em while im lookin at this car and give em credit card details etc and get a verdict there and then, or does it take a while?

Check for an engine swap - if its a 1.2 8v breeze then your ok, if its a 1.0 12v breeze then it might be dodgy seeing as they didnt come with those engines... (apparently)

Yea, the 8v engine has a steel single cam cover on the engine. The 12v will be a bit smaller and will have an alloy twin cam cover with a spark plug cover saying 'Ecotec' on it. Go for the 1.0 12v over the 1.2 8v too as they are better engines and slightly more powerful.
